The Return of Jesus (Episode III)

January 7, 2008

Daniel 11:27  “And both these kings hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for yet the end shall be at the time appointed.

There are three aspects of the geo-political realm.  One is the public display where photo-ops are set up, sound bytes are launched and network reporters claim to have an exclusive handle on breaking news.  (Incidentally, whenever I see such meetings, the above verse almost always comes to mind.)  Second is the behind-the-scenes dealings and secret alliances that none of us are privy to but many who watch such events suspect are taking place.  The third, is the spiritual forces behind such dealings as the whole world is being primed to follow a world leader and receive a mark of allegiance to that leader.  While we don’t know exactly what twists and turns lurk around the corner, we can be certain that these are times like none other in history as the basic apparatus for a world government and a cashless society is in place.

Matthew 24:6  “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”

A small verse that tells a lot.  Wars and rumors have been around for generations, but never has such a climate existed as todays where a nuclear exchange could remove entire nations from the face of the earth.  The turmoil in the middle east, the massive buildup of military power in China, (kings of the east) terrorism, (which poses a very real threat, but also serves to obscure a much bigger picture) and the worlds appetite for oil creates a perfect geo-political storm; the course of which is unpredictable at best.  Such things should not trouble those who are in Christ.  On the contrary, times of uncertainty are great times for evengelism; when folks come to grips with the instability of flesh.  It’s a time to shine the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ into every nook and cranny before time runs out.

The words “but the end is not yet” should be a warning to not become overly confident in our charts and the going “fill-in-the-blanks” prophetic teachings of the day.  While I wasn’t around during the second world war, I can imagine that some thought Adolph Hitler to be the antichrist.  (He was “an” antichrist, but not “the” man of sin that will cause the whole world to wonder after him.)  Such a teaching would have seemed to fit the flow of events, but would be erroneous.  The times will grow increasingly intense as the day of the Lord approaches, but none of us have a perfect picture of how it’s all going to come to pass.  Certain things may indeed line up as we perceive and some things may catch us completely off guard.  Our primary focus should be on the Lord Jesus Christ; knowing that he is our strength and refuge while the storms rage on every side.

I Thessalonians 5:2-3  “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.  For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”

One may wonder why such a topic should even be discussed when we don’t know how it’s all going to come to pass.  For me, it’s two-fold.  First, Jesus intentionally opened up the topic in Matthew chapter 24 when he stated “There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”  This along with the many other biblical references to these times reveal that it’s important for us to be watching.  Just as a watchman would be atop the wall of a city. He may not know exactly what will appear on the horizon, but he will notice when something does and will have to determine whether or not it poses a threat.  Second, it causes me to be mindful of the shortness of time, to draw closer to the Lord Jesus, and be about the business of the kingdom.  If we draw close to him during the peace and safety, we’ll be prepared when the sudden destruction comes.

Matthew 24:7-8  “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places.  All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

This is one nation taking action against another.  While it says “rise up against” there’s not mention that it must entail military intervention; although such will most likely be a part of a rising up.  For example; suppose that the Chinese government determined that the time was ripe, for whatever reason, to bring down the United States.  All that they would have to do is dump all of their U.S. dollars.  It would take seconds and those of us in this country would awaken to a very different reality than the one in place when we went to bed the night before.   That’s how percarious our present standing is and how unpredictable the flow of events can be from day to day.

When one observes the fulfilment of verse seven; nations in dispute, famines, and a noticable uptick in seismic activity, one would be convinced that this simply cannot go on.  yet according to verse 8, these are the beginning of sorrows.  Currently, things appear at a rate where many will say “well we’ve always had wars and famines.”  This is true and I wonder how long before it becomes blatantly obvious that the situation in the world today is far different than the situation of twenty, or even ten years ago.  For those who refuse to see, the upswing in the distress of nations, pestilence, earthquakes, and bizarre weather may not provide enough contrast from past occurrances; even when their own livelihood is threatened.  The following passage is chilling as it portrays the level of hardness that ones heart can reach when they reject the truth that can make them free.

Revelation 9:20-21  “And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:  Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, not of their fornication, not of their thefts.”

While explaining these things on the Mount of Olives, Jesus doesn’t give us a distinct time scale.  He does, however, tell us what to watch for and how to get through these events.  “Endure unto the end.”  To hold fast the profession of our faith regardless of the circumstances of the day or the deceptions which make so much sense that any who are not grounded in the Lord Jesus Christ will be swayed.  To have our affections on things above where we have an inheritance uncorruptible and that fades not away.  In the next installment, the topic of “enduring unto the end” becomes center stage as persecution and false teachings abound.

Until the next time, I wish to all, a blessed day in Jesus.

  1. There are plenty of clues in the bible which can be used to measure against real events which are happening in our own history.

These can be used to get a feeling of how much time is left.

Here are some things we should be looking for:

see the disgusting thing standing in a holy place.
understand what the holy place is.
understand who the man of lawlessness is.
understand who is acting as a restraint and
how he gets to be out of the way.
how the man of lawlessness enters the temple and
how he lifts himself up above a god.
Understand what the apostasy is mentioned by the Apostle Paul.
understand who Babylon the Great really is and why.
what the unclean expressions are and who they really gather together.
    who the drunkards are and
what it means to eat and drink with them.
What Satan’s unrighteous deception is and how extremely successful it’s been.
See the way to real understanding of the bible
What the seven headed wild beast represents.
    Understand a sacred secret.
    Which head received the death-stroke
    Who the 10 kings are.
Why the 10 kings do not yet have a kingdom
How they give their power to the wild beast.
What the name of the wild beast is.
    Why it’s a man’s number.
Where to find the information to calculate the number.
Why the number really is 666.

  2. Greetings. Thanks for taking time to comment. While I delve into end-time prophecy on an above-average basis, I’m concerned as to not become so focused on details that we miss the obvious. For example, the move to a cashless society is, in my mind, an “obvious” and yet most people go about electronic banking without so much as a hint that a most diabolical plan is underway. The coming together of nations is underway at incredible speed and yet most only see the CNN presentation of events.

Likewise, I’ve known christians who have their charts all figured out and any ripple in the flow of events will leave them scratching their heads. The truth is that we see the truth in part. It’s fascinating to prayerfully study and ponder, but we don’t see it all and there may well be transpirations in the natural realm that none of us can anticipate. In due time, the mystery of God will be finished and we’ll see in full the bigger picture. (We don’t even know what the seven thunders uttered)

The single most important thing in these times is to have an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ who has promised to be with us always; even to the end of the world. If we’re truly born of the Spirit and watching, we’ll be prepared for anything that comes our way. “Jesus Christ the same, yesterday, today, and forever.”

Thanks for taking time to comment. Dialog is always good; I only wish that I had more time to engage in it.

  3. thanks for this post as i see daily the verse that states, “men will become lovers of themselves” play out more and more.

there’s so much going on… but thank God that he is still in control regardless of any situation.

  4. Amen Code. God is DEFINATELY in control. I think that we’ll really have to be in remeberance of this in the days ahead as scripture comes to pass. Thanks for stopping by.

Have a blessed day in the Lord Jesus.

  5. The move to a cashless society where money will be worthless will be brought about by an earthquake.

    Revelation 16
17The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. 19The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed.

    Every city will collapse….. literally.

When this happens God’s people will have already been exiled to rural area’s where they are forced to build temporary shelters to live in. In biblical terms these shelters are called booths.

This earthquake is also mentioned in Ezekiel Ch 38

11 You will say, “I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people—all of them living without walls and without gates and bars. 12 I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land.”

Notice that God’s people are living without walls.

This is significant because later in the chapter it says what will happen to all the walls:

    Ezekeil 38
19 In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground.

Every wall will fall to the ground during this earthquake.

If you read into the next chapter of Ezekeil then willo will learn that birds are invited to a meal because there will be a great deal of dead bodies.

Revelation Chapter 19 also speaks to this same invitation of birds to a great feast on the dead bodies.

The exile is also mentioned in Ezekeil Chapter 39.

Although the people going into exile will probably not realize at the time that it is a blessing as the ones left behind will suffer the earthquake inside the cities which will fall down.

The people left behind are the ones who will suffer.

I recommed that you read these in detail.

    Then you will understand what Jesus Christ meant when he said;

    Luke 17:37
37″Where, Lord?” they asked. He replied, “Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.”

Perhaps you will be convinced that a massive earthquake is the event which will make money worthless after considering what Jesus later said in Luke Ch 21

    Luke 21:34
that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. 35For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth.

If a Jew reads this they will now also understand why the celebrate the festival of booths evey year.

Perhaps I should make this my own blog entry.

  6. Greetings. Without a doubt, sudden destruction is coming according to I Thessalonians 5:3. For those who have ears to hear, these events will not be a surprise. Judgement is already upon this country as it has given itself over to a spirit of witchcraft and things will only grow increasingly dicey. (A topic of future discussion) Some will come to Jesus during these times, but the country as a whole will continue on it’s path.

Reelation 9:20 has always been astonishing as it reveals the love that men have for their sin; so much so that, even during intense judgment, they refuse to repent. I’m planning to post about this following link soon (this weekend if time permits; otherwise sometime next week; unless the Lord places something else on my heart) but here it is if you would like to check it out. http://www.propheticwatchmanvine.com/watch13.htm Events are soon to be upon us that stagger the imagination. Yet for those who are in Christ; washed in his blood and born of the Spirit, he will be with us always. Even to the end of the world.

A time of incredible turmoil; and yet a time to be drawn closer to Jesus as everything that can be shaken, will be shaken.

Thanks for stopping by again. End times prophecy is a fascinating topic and while we see things through a glass darkly, the Lord will reveal that which is needed when it is needed. He is a faithful creator and he knows them who trust in him. Thanks again.
